Today’s Current Affairs – 9/July/2023

  • The government has appointed 1989 batch IAS officer and information secretary, K Rajaraman, as the chairman of the International Financial Services Centers Authority (IFSCA) for the next three years, or until he turns 65.• Members of Congress have approved the Data Protection Bill 2022 which is expected to be tabled in the Monsoon session of Parliament for discussion and passage.  China released a national open-source system called OpenKylin for computers.
  • The Banking Association of India has set up a five-member task force to implement the recommendations of the RBI Committee on “Role of Asset Recovery Institutions”. • Odisha CM, Naveen Patnaik launched ‘Ama Pokhari’ Yojana to make around 2,000 water pipes available in 115 Urban Local Bodies in the state
  •  Gujarat Government has signed six MoUs with people’s companies for mangrove plantation under MISHTI program. • Voyager Space has entered into an agreement with NewSpace India Limited (NSIL) to promote cooperation in space launches and access to the Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV) and Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) from NSIL.
  •  The Central Government has issued a notification to bring the Tax Network (GSTN) under the purview of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). Information stored in GSTN can now be shared under PMLA. • The GST Network (GSTN) has launched a geocoding service for all states and UTs, which converts addresses or location details into geographic coordinates
  • Red Bull driver Max Verstappen won the 2023 F1 British Grand Prix title, held at Silverstone Circuit, England.  Lando Norris for McLaren finished second and Lewis Hamilton for Mercedes finished third on the podium.
  • Gukesh defeats Viswanathan Anand in the eighth round of Rapid event of the 2023 SuperUnited Rapid and Blitz tournament.
  • Canada Open: Lakshya Sen beats Kenta Nishimoto of Japan to enter final.
  • International Tennis Federation awarded Justine Henin its highest honour, the Philippe Chatrier Award.
